Last year, Hampton Court House was delighted to receive the Education Choices Award for Developing Student Voice in the Senior Schools category, recognising our commitment to ensuring that every student’s voice is heard, valued and acted upon. The award celebrated our incredible students, whose ideas help shape and enrich our school community, and our dedicated staff, who foster meaningful relationships and encourage self-expression at every stage of school life.
We are therefore thrilled to announce that Hampton Court House has once again been named a finalist for the Education Choices Developing Student Voice Award this year.
At HCH, student voice is far more than a council meeting or occasional consultation. Guided by our ethos of Achievement with Heart, we believe students should be active partners in shaping their educational experience and the future direction of the school. Through our culture of purposeful informality, students feel confident contributing ideas, challenging perspectives and engaging in meaningful dialogue with staff.
This year’s award submission highlighted the many ways in which student voice has driven real and measurable change across the school. From leading sustainability initiatives and influencing wellbeing provision to shaping Sixth Form programmes and contributing to the design of our new Sixth Form Centre, students have played a central role in decision-making.
A standout example has been the work of our Student Eco Committee, whose recommendations have helped drive environmental improvements including the reduction of single-use plastics, the transition to LED lighting and the continued development of our community gardens. These student-led initiatives have contributed to national recognition through the Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction and Hampton Court House becoming the first UK independent school to achieve Harmony Project accreditation.
Student leadership has also had a significant impact on wellbeing across the school. Our Wellbeing Champions programme continues to evolve through student feedback, while student-led initiatives such as Wellbeing Week, wellbeing walks and the development of our Wellbeing Garden have strengthened support and engagement across the community.
What makes student voice at HCH so powerful is that it leads to visible action. Students see their ideas implemented, their feedback valued and their contributions making a genuine difference to school life. As one Year 12 student reflected: “At HCH, it’s not just that we’re listened to – we’re treated like adults and things actually change because of what we say.”
We are incredibly proud to have been recognised once again by Education Choices and congratulate all of our students and staff whose enthusiasm, leadership and partnership continue to make Hampton Court House a place where every voice matters.
