Senior School at Hampton Court House

Senior School at Hampton Court House offers a stimulating and supportive environment where academic ambition is balanced with personal growth, creativity and strong values. For students in Years 7 to 11, this is a stage defined by discovery, confidence-building and thoughtful preparation for the future, guided throughout by our ethos of Achievement with Heart.

We believe that the most successful education combines intellectual challenge with character development, enabling young people to think independently, act with integrity and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

An Ambitious and Engaging Curriculum

The Senior School curriculum is broad, rigorous and intentionally designed to inspire curiosity and intellectual confidence. Core subjects are taught in depth, ensuring strong academic foundations, while a wide range of GCSE options allows students to pursue their interests and develop genuine areas of strength.

Lessons are dynamic and discussion-led, encouraging students to question, debate and refine their ideas. Independent thinking is actively nurtured, helping students to develop their own voice and confidence in expressing it.

Our approach of purposeful informality ensures that teachers know their students well and have strong working relationships, enabling teachers to adapt their approach to ensure every individual is appropriately challenged and supported. Alongside subject knowledge, students develop essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, resilience and effective communication – skills that are vital for both academic success and life beyond school. We pride ourselves on preparing every student for the future, providing them with the knowledge, experience and skills needed for success in a global world.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Education at Senior School extends far beyond the academic timetable.

A rich and varied co-curricular programme provides students with opportunities across sport, the creative and performing arts, leadership and enrichment activities. Students are encouraged to explore new interests and deepen existing passions, whether through competitive sport, musical performance, drama productions, or academic extension opportunities. Music and the arts are deeply woven into the fabric of our school from termly productions and performances to competitions designed to showcase artistic flair, academic clinics enable students to focus on areas for improvement and carefully curated partnerships extend and enhance our sports offer to include world-class facilities and opportunities.

Leadership roles and student voice initiatives further empower students to take responsibility and contribute positively to school life. What distinguishes HCH is the clarity of impact. At Hampton Court House, student voice is not an initiative – it is integral to how our school operates. The result is a community where young people develop the confidence to speak, the capability to lead and the understanding that their voice can create meaningful change. This is best captured in the words of one of our students: “At HCH, it’s not just that we’re listened to – we’re treated like adults and things actually change because of what we say.” (Year 12 student).

Community involvement and charity initiatives also play an important role, helping students to develop empathy, social awareness and a sense of responsibility towards others. These experiences are central to our belief in educating the whole person, not just the academic learner. Every term, our students fundraise for initatives including Rafiki Thabo and Kingston Foodbank.

Immersive experiences play a key role in developing cultural capital, independence and resilience. The school actively supports students in pursuing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, a programme that fosters teamwork, personal growth and self-reliance through skill development, community service and expeditions.

Enriching trips and experiential learning deepen understanding through real-world experiences, whether locally, nationally or internationally. Alongside regular theatre and concert visits, these opportunities create a rich educational experience that complements the curriculum while inspiring students to explore new interests and challenge themselves.

Every Student Truly Known and Supported

Pastoral care sits at the heart of the Senior School experience. Strong, supportive relationships between students, tutors and teachers create an environment in which young people feel safe, valued and understood. Regular tutor time, open communication and a close-knit school community ensure that students are guided and supported throughout their journey in Senior School.

We place great importance on wellbeing, self-awareness and belonging, ensuring that every student is known as an individual. This supportive framework enables students to take intellectual risks, ask big questions and develop confidence in who they are and what they believe. Our strongest evidence comes from the voices of students themselves. A recent independent ISI inspection conducted in October 2025 shows that students feel safe, happy, listened to and supported. They describe HCH as “warm”, “inclusive” and “unique”. That sense of belonging matters. Young people achieve more when they feel safe, valued and understood, this sense of belonging and support offered at HCH directly impacts their confidence and academic progress.

Preparing for the Future

Senior School at Hampton Court House is designed to develop confident, well-rounded and motivated young people who are ready for the next stage of their education and beyond. At Hampton Court House, every strategic decision is designed to improve outcomes for students academically, emotionally, socially and personally. The result is a school where young people do not simply achieve excellent results: they develop into confident, capable, self-aware and compassionate individuals, prepared not only for university, but for life.

By the time they move on to our award winning ‘Preparing for Life’ Sixth Form, students leave with strong academic foundations, a developed sense of self, and the courage and character needed to navigate an ever-changing world with confidence and purpose.
