Transition

At Hampton Court House, our all-through approach offers a continuous and enriching educational journey from Early Years through to Sixth Form. This seamless pathway allows students to grow and develop within a familiar, supportive environment, free from the pressures of 11+ and 13+ entrance exams or the disruption of moving between schools.

Instead, students progress with confidence, supported by consistent values, strong relationships and a deep understanding of their individual strengths and needs. This continuity enables them to focus fully on their learning, personal development and wellbeing, while benefiting from a close-knit community that supports them at every stage.

The Importance of a Positive Transition

We understand that transition points are significant moments in a child’s educational journey. Whether joining us at the start or moving between phases within the school, feeling secure, confident and prepared is essential.

As an all-through school, we place great emphasis on ensuring that every transition is a positive and supported experience. Early connections, familiar faces and a shared ethos help to ease anxieties, build confidence and foster strong friendships from the outset. Our approach ensures that every student feels a true sense of belonging from their very first day.

 A Carefully Designed Transition Programme

Our transition programme is thoughtfully designed to ensure that students and families feel informed, supported and excited about joining the HCH community.

Prospective pupils are encouraged to experience the school through taster days and open mornings, offering valuable insight into daily life and helping families feel confident in their choice. For those joining Senior School, our Offer Holder Day provides a warm introduction, giving students the opportunity to meet their peers, connect with staff and begin to feel at home in their new environment.

Throughout the summer term, we maintain regular contact with new families through informal coffee mornings, school communications and invitations to community events such as the Winter Market and Summer Fete. These moments help build familiarity and connection, ensuring that pupils already feel part of the HCH community before they officially begin.

Before the start of term, families are welcomed to our New Joiners’ BBQ, an opportunity to meet tutors, senior staff and other families in a relaxed and friendly setting. This is complemented by a carefully structured start to the academic year, with the first week dedicated to induction activities, team building and opportunities to settle in. For Sixth Form students, this includes a dedicated induction experience designed to build confidence and connection.

Knowing Every Child

A key part of successful transition is understanding each individual pupil. We work closely with nurseries, primary and secondary schools, as well as with families, to ensure that we have a clear picture of every child’s needs, strengths and interests before they arrive.

This personalised approach allows us to provide the right support from day one, ensuring that each student feels understood, valued and ready to thrive.

 A Seamless Journey

The strength of an all-through education at Hampton Court House lies in its continuity. Students benefit from a stable, supportive environment where they are known and encouraged over time, building confidence, resilience and a strong sense of identity.

By removing unnecessary transitions and focusing on meaningful, well-supported progression, we create an educational journey that is not only seamless but deeply enriching – preparing students for success at every stage and beyond.
