Supporting a Positive Transition into Reception

Posted: 2nd March 2026

On Tuesday morning, we were delighted to welcome families who will be joining Reception in September, including those children transitioning from Nursery. It was a truly warm and special occasion, filled with excitement for the journeys about to begin.

At Hampton Court House, we place great importance on ensuring a smooth and positive transition for every pupil – whether they are joining us for the first time or moving up between year groups. As an all-through school, our children benefit from continuity in pastoral care and the reassurance that they are known and understood as individuals. This consistency helps to build confidence, security and a strong sense of belonging from the very start.

The session was led by Susie, Head of Prep, Imogen, Head of Little Courtyard, and Emma, our Reception Class Teacher. They shared insight into our unique, pupil-led approach to learning, which places a strong emphasis on experiential opportunities and developing the key skills children need to flourish both now and in the years ahead.

Parents enjoyed the opportunity to ask questions, meet other families and gain a deeper understanding of life in Reception. It was a wonderful morning that reflected the strength of our community and the supportive partnerships we build with families. And there was great excitement as pupils took home their very own copy of The Four Little Courtiers, a special story to begin their journey with us.

We very much look forward to welcoming our new Reception pupils and supporting them every step of the way as they begin this exciting new chapter.
