This week, our school community was immersed in the vibrant spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival. We embraced this cherished Chinese tradition, which centres on the deeply held values of family reunion and togetherness. At the heart of the celebration is the bright, full moon, a timeless and beautiful symbol of harmony and completeness that connects us all.
Students across the school engaged with the festival through creative activities:
• Years 5 & 6 learned the festival’s legend and made colourful lanterns that brightened our classrooms.
• Years 7–9 crafted lanterns and explored the famous Tang poem《静夜思》(Thoughts in the Silent Night) by Li Bai, appreciating its themes of home and family.
• Years 10–12 studied Su Shi’s philosophical poem《水调歌头》(Prelude to Water Melody), discussing its hopeful message of connection under the same moon.
The celebrations culminated in a workshop where students enthusiastically made lanterns and paper rabbits. A special thank you to Clarisse, and Year 11 students Beatrice and Eloise for their wonderful help.
We wish all our HCH families a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival. May the bright moon bring happiness and harmony to everyone. It was a lovely way for our school community to come together and share in this meaningful tradition.
