Harmony at Hampton Court House: A Living Curriculum for a Changing World

Posted: 2nd March 2026

At Hampton Court House School, sustainability is not an add-on, it is the foundation of how students learn to see the world.

After four years of curriculum design, staff training and cross-department collaboration, the school has achieved official accreditation from The Harmony Project, led by Director Richard Dunne. Hampton Court House is now the first independent school in England, and only the second nationally, to receive this recognition.

This milestone reflects a whole-school commitment to embedding sustainability across the school. Teachers redesigned schemes of work across science, humanities, design and the arts to ensure systems thinking and environmental responsibility underpin everyday learning.

Inspired by the vision of King Charles III – seeing the world as an interconnected, balanced system – the Harmony approach reframes education itself. Students don’t just study environmental issues; they develop the mindset to respond to them.

Set within expansive grounds used as a living classroom, pupils engage directly with biodiversity, seasonal change and ecological relationships. As an all-through school, this approach evolves from Prep through to Senior years, nurturing sustainable design thinking, ethical awareness and future-focused leadership.

This accreditation is more than an award. It signals a belief that education must prepare young people not only academically, but environmentally, equipping them to design solutions for a more sustainable future.
