A Festive Day of Song, Celebration and Food!

Posted: 3rd December 2025

This Wednesday, the school community stepped warmly into the festive season with a morning filled with music, reflection and togetherness. Students from Years 3 to 13 made their way to the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Hampton, where they were welcomed by
families and friends for our annual Carol Service. Led by Rev’d Teri-Anne Cavanagh and ourCho ir Master, Kieran Brunt, the service offered a moment of stillness and celebration amidst the busy final weeks of term.

Following the tradition of the Festival of Nine Lessons, six readings were delivered by our students and Principal Kate from across the school. The church was filled with the sounds of carols including Riu Riu Chiu, This Little Babe and Noel Nouvelet, performed with poise and clarity by our Junior, Chamber, and Year 6 and 7 Choirs. A particular joy was the collective voice of the whole school joining together for Hark the Herald Angels Sing and O Come All Ye Faithful, while the HCH Staff Choir collaborated with the Chamber Choir for a spirited rendition of Personent Hodie.

We extend our heartfelt thanks and warm congratulations to all our choirs. Their weeks of rehearsals, fuelled by dedication and enthusiasm, culminated in music that truly brought the Service of Lessons and Carols to life. Their commitment embodies the collaborative spirit we cherish at Hampton Court House.

Our gratitude goes to St Mary’s Church and Rev’d Teri-Anne for hosting and guiding this special occasion, and to all families and friends who joined us. The morning provided a rare and welcome pause—an opportunity to breathe, reflect, and celebrate together as we move into the festive season.

Following the festive warmth of our morning at St Mary’s Church, students returned to Hampton Court House to find the school transformed into a Christmas wonderland. As they stepped through the doors, they were greeted by the joyful sight of long tables laid across the main hall and theatre, each adorned with sparkling decorations, cheerful crackers, and all the festive trimmings that signal the start of a cherished HCH tradition. It was a wonderful way to continue the celebrations and bring everyone together

With hats ready to be donned and crackers poised to be pulled, students settled in for a delicious Christmas lunch, served with good humour and enthusiasm by members of staff. Laughter, shared jokes and the gentle hum of conversation filled the rooms, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere. As always, it was a pleasure to witness our school community gathered together in such high spirits. The Christmas lunch remains one of those special moments in the HCH year when students and staff pause, connect and enjoy the simple joy of celebrating the festive season side by side.
