HCH wins Royal Horticultural Society Level 5 Award

Posted: 29th August 2024

Hampton Court House is proud to announce that our Community Garden achieved the Level 5 School Garden Award, the highest award level possible, from the Royal Horticultural Society in 2024. This remarkable achievement comes just two years after the garden was first conceived. The garden is a shared space for parents, children, and teachers, offering a mix of fruit, vegetables, and pollinator-friendly plants. Sustainable practices, such as minimal digging to preserve soil health and leaving areas of weeds to support biodiversity, and promote organic growth are at the heart of its maintenance. Much of the garden is also crafted from reused materials. This thriving garden is now used for outdoor lessons and is actively maintained by a dedicated team of parents and teachers. The garden also serves as a quiet sanctuary for students accessing counseling services, offering a tranquil space for reflection. Additionally, it has become a haven for wildlife, home to numerous species, including butterflies, dragonflies, bees, spiders, beetles, a toad, hedgehogs and various birds. This thriving ecosystem reflects the school’s commitment to sustainability and community well-being.
