Afiya Romain-Bains

Position: Teacher of Physics

Afiya grew up in West London and developed an early fascination with how the world works, which led her to study Physics at university and pursue a career in education. She holds a BSc in Physics and has over ten years’ experience teaching across a range of London schools, as well as working in specialist online provision supporting students who benefit from flexible, personalised approaches to learning. Through both classroom and online teaching, Afiya has worked with students of varied backgrounds and learning needs, helping them to build confidence, independence, and strong problem-solving skills in Physics.
Alongside her school role, Afiya is the founder of Learn Physics with Afiya, an online education platform that supports A-Level Physics students in developing clear conceptual understanding and effective exam technique. Her experience in specialist online provision has shaped her teaching style, encouraging adaptability, clarity, and a strong focus on individual progress.
Outside the classroom, Afiya is deeply involved in the arts and creative community, drawing strong inspiration from her Caribbean heritage. She designs costumes for the Notting Hill Carnival and is the co-author of the children’s book Nia’s Carnival Adventure, which she wrote with her mother to celebrate culture, creativity, and storytelling. She also enjoys travelling, staying active through dance and fitness, and continually learning new skills — she is currently learning Portuguese. Afiya values curiosity in all its forms and enjoys sharing this enthusiasm for learning with her students.
