Year 5 Making Potions in Maths

The budding witches and wizards of Year 5 have been very busy in maths this week putting their conversion graphs and their knowledge of metric and imperial units to use to make a range of magical potions.

They performed a titration to work out exactly how much disappearing potion was required (23.7ml) to make a pink liquid turn completely colourless and also made their very own truth potion using a range of exotic ingredients such as dragon’s blood, pixie dust and june-bug juice. They then used the truth potion to discover which students in the class harbour secrets (roughly half the class!).

Their potion making skills are now so developed that they will be spending Friday lunchtime making some non-Newtonian fluid slime and perhaps even some flying potion – if they can source the necessary amount of unicorn tears of course.
