Science takes flight: paper aeroplanes Form Seven talk

Parents, students and friends of Hampton Court House were treated to an electrifying and entertaining Form Seven talk by polymath scientist and TEDx speaker Dr Edmond Hui last Thursday.

Edmond’s presentation, entitled “Paper Aeroplanes – and the Joy of Being Wrong” included the fascinating history of aviation in Kingston-upon-Thames (including the famous Hawker Hurricane aircraft), discovering how the heart pumps blood, how Orville and Wilbur Wright invented powered flight against all the odds and, of course, how to make the most effective paper aeroplane. Everyone adjourned to the English room next door to make their own aeroplanes in an interactive intermission.

“Paper Aeroplanes” was the latest Form Seven public enrichment talk presented by Hampton Court House for students, parents, grandparents and friends from the community. It was a joy to see children and adults equally captivated by science.
