RSC Chemistry Week

On Friday 22nd November, Year 8 students took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry Global Experiment for Chemistry Week 2013. The Year 8 students went through a methodological process of making a calibration mixture to help them work out various concentrations of Vitamin Cs in fruits such as Satsumas, Oranges, Lemons and Kiwis. Their data will be plotted and uploaded to the RSC Global Experiment website for comparison with the results of students around the world. Other schools have done similar experiments, including comparing levels of Vitamin C in fruits from different countries, or the effect of cooking or ageing on Vitamin C levels.

Through this experiment, students were also able to gain confidence in using lab apparatus and learned relevant lab techniques.
