Joan has always had a natural curiosity for physics from an early age. Following a degree and Phd in Physics at University College London, she worked as a Physicist at the National Physical Laboratory for nearly 19 years. During that time she became interested in the application of inventions and qualified as a Certified Market Analyst.

With two children of her own she decided to focus on what she felt were important values in her life and completed a PGCE at St Mary’s University in Secondary Science in 2017.

Joan has had many varied experiences including trekking through the Peruvian Andes, climbing Kilimanjaro, Scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. More recent interests include skiing, sailing, walking, cooking and supporting her local sea scout group. She is passionate about science and is a member of the Institute of Physics and the Association of Science Education.
