Frances was born and brought up in the Lincolnshire fens. She studied mathematics at Oxford
University, gaining a 1st class honours degree from St Hugh’s College; she then attended Hughes Hall,
Cambridge University and was awarded her PGCE in maths and PE. Since leaving university, Frances
has taught in a variety of English state and independent schools, mainly teaching mathematics to
children from Years 4 to 13 including Oxbridge entrance.

Frances is married with two grown up children; her husband is also a teacher. Her interests include
travel, gardening, music, IT, and food. However, her youth was spent doing sport – particularly
tennis, in which she played to national standard and was awarded Blues from both Oxford and
Cambridge. Frances enjoys mathematical and logic puzzles and is often to be found with her head in
her ‘Beyond Sudoku’ puzzle book.
