HCH Summer Dance Show: Giraffe Can’t Dance

In our Summer Ballet Show pupils aged 3 to 16 presented the enchanting story of Gerald the giraffe and his friends from the book Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae.

Each class from the Early and Lower Years took turns to perform a scene from the story, including Scottish reeling baboons, waltzing warthogs, rock ’n’ rolling rhinos and lions dancing the tango. The children’s concentration and hard work in lessons was reflected in extremely finessed performances.

The older children from the Middle and Upper Years’ ballet clubs also created their own scene, beautifully evoking the wind whispering through a moonlit forest clearing. For the first time, the HCH ballet show featured pas de deux and pointe work from the senior students. It was inspiring for the youngest children to see the teenage dancers performing with such professionalism and beauty.

Special thanks to Lauren for her imagination and care for the children, choreographing and directing such an atmospheric production. The show also, in the true spirit of HCH, included collaborations with the art and English departments, featuring video animation designed by Eve and voiceover from Adam.
