GCSE and A level Results 2020

This year the GCSE and A level grades awarded have been based on in-school assessment rather than external examinations, but the students still deserve every congratulation for their successes.

At A level, all of the students recieved at least B grades in all subjects and 50% of the grades were A*-A.

More importantly, all of our students been accepted by their first-choice universities. We wish them all well and hope they visit again soon to tell us all about their experiences.

At GCSE, 89% of the GCSE results were 7, 8 or 9 on the new scale (where 7 is an A), and over two thirds of the grades were 8 or 9 (A*).

The majority of Year 11 recieved 9 or more 7-9/A*-A. With so many excellent results it is difficult to highlight just a few, but particular mentions should go to:

  • Charles, for getting grade 9 in all ten of his GCSEs;
  • Alexis, Daniil, Katie, and Polina, for being awarded ten 9-8 (A*) grades;
  • Dylan, Florence, Freddie, Max, Scarlett, and Sorrel who each have nine 9-8 (A*) grades.

GCSE Results 2019

This year the all of the grades are on the new 9-1 scale that England has adopted, on this scale 4 is a ‘pass’, 5 is a ‘good pass’, and 7 is what would have been an A. There are two higher grades than the 7, and only 4.5% of the grades awarded in England this year were 9.

The trend of ever improving results at HCH has continued through these changes with a higher proportion than ever before getting A grades or equivalent. 78% of the GCSE results were 7, 8 or 9 on the new scale (where 7 is an A) and 46% were 8 or 9 (A*). Nationally, only 20.6% of grades were 7 or better and only 11.4% were 8 or 9.

I am delighted to be able to congratulate the Science department on an exceptional set of results, across the department 86% of the Year 11 grades were 7-9, including 100% 7-9 in chemistry, physics and psychology and 100% 8-9 in biology. The Science department has thrived under Abi’s leadership over the last few years and these results are an auspicious start to her role as Head of Teaching & Learning.

93% of English language grades were 7-9 (A*-A) with 71% 8-9 (A* grades). This is particularly impressive when compared to the national statistics where only 13.9% of grades were 7-9 (A*-A) and only 6.6% were 8-9 (A* grades).

100% of the mathematics grades were 6-9 (A*-B) with 86% being 7-9 (A*-A) and 43% 8-9 (A* grades). Nationally, 24.9% were 6-9 (A*-B), 15.9% were 7-9 (A*-A), and only 8.5% 8-9 (A* grades). Both history and art also achieved 100% 6-9 (A*-B).

Languages traditionally dominate the very highest grades and this year is no exception as 64% of the French grades were 9s and 100% of those students who took their GCSE early received a 9. There is competition for this title looming, however, as 50% of psychology grades were also 9s.

The majority of Year 11 achieved 8 or more 7-9/A*-A. With so many excellent results it is difficult to highlight just a few, but particular mentions should go to:

  • Beth, for achieving ten 7-9 (A*-A) including five grade 9s;
  • Tanay, for achieving eight 9-8 (A*) grades;
  • Aglaia, for achieving nine 7-9 (A*-A) including six 9-8 (A*) grades;
  • Henry, for achieving ten 7-9 (A*-A) including four 9-8 (A*) grades.

I’m sure you will all join me in congratulating all the students who took GCSE exams this year. We are immensely proud of them and they well deserve these fantastic results.

A level Results 2019

Whilst the headlines across the country are about falling numbers of A grades, I am delighted to be able to announce that results are still on the rise at HCH. The proportion of A and B grades achieved by our leavers is the highest to date and more than half of the grades were A grades.

All of the students achieved passing grades in all subjects.

  • 53% of the grades were A*-A, significantly better than the national average of 25.2%.
  • 83% were A*-B grades, substantially above the national average of 51.1%.

The majority of subjects are celebrating 100% A*-B grades, including all of the languages and humanities subjects. Over 70% of the grades in Mathematics were A*-A, but Economics was the top performing with 100% A*-A.

Congratulations have to go in particular to the following students who achieved straight A*-A grades.

  • Gerard Glowacki
  • Anais Venkatasawmy
