Hampton Court House is dedicated to providing individual and group tuition to those students who wish to improve their English language communication skills. We offer a complete programme of lessons geared to foreign students. It is designed to inform their written and spoken expression, while simultaneously building pupils’ confidence and ability to use this information effectively in the classroom environment. Children are taught by a specialist teacher in a creative and supportive environment and placed in groups according to age and level of ability. Lessons are delivered in a fun and interactive format using a variety of teaching techniques. Informal assessment takes place on an on-going basis and students sit an additional formal assessment once per term.

One-on-one tuition in a relaxed learning environment

In order to encourage an appreciation of English as a language and culture, students collaborate on Arts and Literature-based projects. By the end of the Summer term each student will have produced a portfolio of work demonstrating what they have learned and enjoyed. In addition to receiving regular feedback and individual reports, parents also receive a half-termly EAL Newsletter: ID:EAL which includes details of up-coming social events organised for the whole family.

The course package consists of two 45 minute lessons per week which take place within school hours. All classes are taught in pairs or small groups of 3 or 4 pupils (a maximum of 6 students per class). All materials (including books) are provided.

EAL tuition can also be arranged on a one-to-one basis, either after school or on Saturday mornings. However, please bear in mind that in terms of practical language use, many students gain the most through group interaction.

Tuition fees are payable on a termly basis as follows:

Year group Tuition fee per term Equivalent weekly fee
Group Individual / After School Group Individual / After School
Upper School (Ages 11-16yrs) £300 £400 £30 £40
Lower School (Ages 4-10yrs) £250 £350 £25 £35

All language courses are taught by Caith Olnick, an EAL specialist tutor who joined HCH in January 2010. Since then Caith has successfully intertwined her twin passions: teaching English as an Additional Language while helping to ensure that all children flourish at Hampton Court House, no matter what individual challenges they may face.
